In the japanese tradition, as well as the indian one and the european, there's a little story that shows the importance of the languange. The european story is as follows.
Once two priests from different orders, both inveterate smokers, went to talk with the Pope. They wanted to ask if they were allowed to smoke whilst praying. When the first of them got into the hall where the Pope received the consults, he asked: ¿Can we smoke while I am praying? The Pope obviously told him not to, and got very angry with him. When the second priest went in, he changed the format of the question: ¿Can we pray while I am smoking? The Pope got happy with him, any time is a good moment to pray my son.
